OUR PRESENTATION The days spent at Euro camp, on Prišcapac, were quite unforgettable. The participants of the camp were high-school students from Blato, Croatia and Budapest, Hungary. Even though there weren’t a large number of students, we still had a great time. The majority of our time was spent on the beach. During the day we baked in the sun and swam in the Adriatic Sea. At night we gathered in our apartments, and even though sometimes we listened to the music much too loud the other guests still survived. However, the seven lovely days we spent together did not only consist of relaxing and lounging around. Each day, we had various academic activities. We measured the cleanliness of the sea, the earth and the air. We also studied the plant-life found in our surroundings. After a few “lazy” days, it was quite tiring climbing to Morkan, a hill above Prišcapac, but I managed to survive the climb. I was almost jealous of the group of students who got to stay in the apartments and whose only assignment was to draw. Can you imagine that? While my group was perspiring in the sun, they were drawing somewhere in the shade. Believe me though, I would have regretted not making the climb because I do not have the opportunity to see such beauty every day, and even more so it’s usually quite difficult to convince me to move my lazy legs and hike such a distance. On Friday afternoon, all of the students presented their research. We set up a herbarium which contained earth plants and sea algae. Some algae were spared from this drying procedure so instead we replaced them with other different types of sea life that we had put in glass containers full of seawater. We did not forget our measurements of the cleanliness of the sea, the earth and the air. Even though some small bacteria grew in the Peatries dishes, we concluded that it was harmless and that the sea and the surrounding environment were clean and safe. We proved this by offering our Hungarian friends some “gifts” from the sea. Our diligent teachers cooked in vinegar a certain kind of sea algae that could be safely consumed It was my first time to try this dish, and it was very tasty. In the beginning, our Hungarian friends were disgusted by the “gross grass” but then some brave souls went ahead and tried it. They were pleasantly surprised by the taste of that sea specialty. However, the main attraction was definitely the sea urchins and other sea animals. I believe that they were much tastier to the Hungarian students. I enjoyed the sea urchins and sea animals more, and I couldn’t get enough of them especially considering the setting I found myself in. I have to admit that my eyes frequently wandered to the far away sea and to the islands that were barely visible in the horizon. A similar scene could be found in the drawings of the sea that were on display that afternoon. They were drawn by the students in the art group. These students really delighted everyone with their talent and imagination. The amazing atmosphere we had all found ourselves in was undoubtedly responsible for their impressive works. What more can I say about our Euro camp experience? It was fun and educational, and I believe that we need more events such as this one. I heard that the next camp will take place in Luxembourg. I can only hope that we all can earn a trip there, because I am sure that the experience will be unforgettable and extremely rewarding.
