VISITING THE WINE CELLAR AND OIL FACTORY IN BLATO

On Wednesday morning at around 9 am we left to go to Blato with all the Hungarian students. Firstly we went to the oil factory on the way to Vela Luka where we saw the machinery where Olive oil is produced. We even got to see the old fashion machinery which Croats use to work with. Today the old fashion way of producing Olive oil isn’t used anymore because the newer process is faster and produces olive oil at better quality. They also learnt a few things about our olive oil. Across from the oil factory we saw a little place where natural water is pumped all around the island which we drink. We also saw vineyards. Underneath the fields about 5 m is water. They saw a well where we fetch drinking water from which is 7.2 m deep. On the way out they saw a few trees where the Chinese first got silk from caterpillars that lived in the nests of those trees. After that we went back to Blato to see the wine cellar behind the school where wine is produced and where it’s stored. They also heard about the fire which happened and destroyed everything. They were only able to save a few barrels which are exhibited today in one of the cellars. The people who worked down there prepared a little snack so the Hungarian students could try our wine. They got to try white wine which is from Korčula and red wine which is from Blato (Plavac). They really enjoyed it all wanting to have more.
